Biography

My name is Brittney Walker; I am a Graduate Level Clinician with a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I have had the pleasure of working with families and individuals ranging from ages 2 to 72 years of age since 2013.

While I work with all ages, I have a real passion for working with children and adolescents! I am trained in Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Experiential & Expressive Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Trauma Informed Care with a specialization in “Theraplay” Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy and Post-Adoption. Your child learns in a variety of different ways and so we will explore styles that will address behavioral issues and teach coping skills that match their individual style.

I am also trained to  work with people that have experienced significant trauma, as well as individuals who have depression, anxiety, grief, and struggles with parent-attachment. I want to help others go from “survival mode” to “thrival mode” so once they complete services with me, they can go on being their truest most authentic self. I believe that while trauma can be generational, so is healing.

I am invested in taking a more integrative and holistic approach to mental health and operate from a trauma-informed perspective. I have been described in the past as “The calm during the storm.” I believe that my zen personality gives the clients I work with an open invitation to be vulnerable while finding their inner strength. I pride myself on creating a safe space for my clients to be heard and to heal. I enjoy using a variety of different modalities to find out what works best for others as there is no “one-size-fits-all” to therapy.
